I am your Kukumar is an installation with video and objects by artists Maja Čule and Katy Pyle. Approaching their topic through ecosexual, feminist, queer, somatic and humorous methodologies, Čule and Pyle create a new relationship with each other and with the environment.

The sea cucumber's ability to regenerate, after discarding their internal organs in stressful and dangerous situations, becomes a symbol of queer strategies of resistance and transformation. Through interviews and dances with queers and drag artists in Split, Čule and Pyle co-create a new perspective on the sea cucumber and build a repository of knowledge about lives outside the old "seksualni režim."

First installation was exhibted at the Kocka Gallery in Split, December 16th 2024. The installation included  videos, objects, and food. Čule and Pyle are working on a film that will be realeased in 2025.

 
 GLOSSARY

Kukumar
Croatian for sea cucumber, dialect name used in south Dalmatia.
Ja sam tvoj Kukumar,  translates to “ I am Your Sea Cucumber”.

Morski Penis
is Croatian for “Sea Penis”, most common word used for sea cucumbers in coastal towns in Croatia.

Seksualni Režim
translates to “sexual regime”, term used to describe relationships informed by cis, heteronormative and  patriachal values.
